Every morning after breakfast, I grab my cup of tea and prepare for my commute to work: It's a grueling 12 steps downstairs to my home office. For the last few years, I have been fortunate to work for technology companies that recognize you don't need to be physically in an office to get your work done. Between Skype, instant messaging and the telephone, my Colorado office is virtually "down the hall" from everybody in Mountain View, California. I spend the day Skyped into a big screen that hangs in our main office. I can talk to co-workers or engage in a brainstorming session and see the whiteboard during a meeting. Technology is amazing!
For the most part, working remotely is fabulous. Yes, I wear slippers to work just about every day. No, I do not miss the traffic of the Bay Area. Parties, however, are a bit more fun if I can actually be in the office. A virtual margarita isn't quite the same!
